A cloud POS runs in a browser or app with data stored on remote servers, so it can be reached from anywhere and updates without installation. Its trade-off is that it needs an internet connection to work.
The advantages are real: no installation, access from any device, automatic updates, and multi-outlet reporting without syncing machines. For a multi-location operator these are decisive.
The dependency is equally real. A venue with unreliable connectivity — a market pitch, a rural site, a mall with poor signal — should weigh an offline-first product instead.
