PromptPay is Thailand's national QR transfer scheme, linking payments to a registered phone number or national ID. It is the default cashless method for most independent Thai venues.
Unlike a DuitNow merchant QR, a PromptPay QR encodes the recipient identifier directly, which is why exact-amount PromptPay codes can be generated for an individual bill or an individual guest.
That makes per-guest bill splitting practical: each person scans a code for exactly their share rather than working out transfers between themselves.
